A release result, when retained, means MA DOC supplied that status. It does not rule out another authority's custody, a parole term, or a pending case. An alert also is not a certified record. For a durable answer, request the DOC release or discharge record and use Parole Board material when parole followed.

It does not establish a separate Massachusetts email-link confirmation step, so users should follow the live interface rather than rely on an obsolete button sequence.

Confirm Hampshire County VINELink Alerts
VINE data can lag and is not guaranteed error-free. Treat a release, transfer, or escape alert as the signal to contact the agency that supplied the data. For an MA DOC person, ask DOC for the release order, certificate, actual date, or other appropriate public record. If parole followed, use the Parole Board for the decision or authorized supervision record. A Hampshire Sheriff record remains necessary for a county custody event before a state transfer.
Federal and immigration cases require separate systems. The BOP Inmate Locator can retain federal release records from 1982 onward and may display a past release date with “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” That only confirms the end of BOP custody. ICE's locator tests current detention, and a missing ICE result does not prove release, removal, or transfer. Neither source feeds the Massachusetts VINE service.
A current county detainee also sits outside Massachusetts VINE coverage. Call the Hampshire Sheriff and request the actual release date and time, legal authority or release type, and destination. Check the Trial Court docket for the order. If the destination is another custodian, continue there before calling the person released to the community.
Hampshire County Victim Notification Layers

This layered system is important. Public VINELink access follows MA DOC data. The formal state registry follows its own eligibility and documentation rules. Local Hampshire victim services address the county setting. Each has a distinct purpose, and none replaces the originating custody record.
A local check should name the exact Hampshire custodian. The main jail, Regional Police Lock-Up, and Bridge to the Future are sheriff-operated but represent different custody stages. The result should answer four points: which custody or legal status ended, when it ended, where the person went, and what status followed. VINELink can help with some of those points for MA DOC. It cannot answer all four for every Hampshire County person.
